Course overview

This comprehensive 5-day course is designed to equip participants with essential digital literacy skills and effective communication techniques in the digital age. Through a hands-on and interactive approach, participants will gain a solid understanding of computer operations, internet navigation, online safety measures, and email management. Additionally, the course will explore various communication tools, online etiquette, and best practices for digital communication, with a focus on social media platforms. Participants will also develop proficiency in creating engaging presentations using diverse tools, enabling them to effectively convey their ideas and messages.

Day 1: Introduction to digital literacy and computer fundamentals

  • Icebreakers and networking activities

  • Introduction to computers and digital literacy
  • Hands-on exploration of computer hardware and software
  • Operating system fundamentals and file management

Day 2: Navigating the Internet and email communication

  • Understanding the Internet: Structure, terminologies, and navigation
  • Internet safety and security: Identifying threats, creating strong passwords, and protecting personal information
  • Email essentials: Setting up accounts, composing emails, managing contacts, and organizing inboxes
  • Online treasure hunt (group work)

Day 3: Digital communication and cultural exploration

  • Cultural visit (e.g. museum, heritage site) guided in English
  • Pre-visit: Relevant facts, online presence and information
  • Post-visit: Reflection activities and online assignments
  • Exploring communication tools: instant messaging and video conferencing
  • Online etiquette and best practices for digital communication
  • Discussion on the benefits and challenges of digital communication in personal and professional contexts

Day 4: Effective presentation design and delivery

  • Introduction to presentation tools: Google Slides, Canva, Prezi, PowerPoint
  • Principles of effective presentation design and delivery
  • Collaborative creation of presentations on chosen topics related to sustainability and the digital domain
  • Peer feedback and evaluation of presentations

Day 5: Social media strategies and course wrap-up

  • Social media platforms: overview and best practices
  • Creating and managing social media profiles for personal and professional use
  • Strategies for effective social media communication and engagement
  • Course evaluation and feedback
  • Certification ceremony

The classes typically run from 9 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, with the afternoon and evening reserved for self-reflection and individual study. However, the course schedule may be adjusted to accommodate the preferences of the participants and the availability of instructors or external learning locations. Participants will receive the finalized schedule well in advance, allowing ample time for preparation and planning.

Learning outcomes:

The participants will be able to:

Course fee:

  • 400 euro per participant (covered entirely by the Erasmus grant)
